Design and Technology

Through Design and Technology, children at Epping Upland become creative problem solvers. The skills they acquire allow them to work confidently as individuals and as part of a team. Pupils have the opportunity to use their imagination to design and evaluate products of their own design. Design and Technology covers a variety of area including designing, preparing and cooking a healthy meal. Pupils also learn about structures, textiles, electronics and mechanics. We teach our children to question and think analytically about the world around then in order to design and develop their own products with a purpose in mind.

The National Curriculum for Design & Technology aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world;
  • build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users;
  • critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others;
  • understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.
